Enumerated alive in the 1870 U.S. Census, Ward 11, Natchitoches (age ~49, b.~1821), with wife 'Therisine' (Theresine Carles, M17); also the 1860 Census (dw. 366) as 'Florine' with wife 'Terucia' and son Adolphe

1880Death
ABSENT from the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Censuses (his sons Adolph/M8 and J.A. Conant head their own Natchitoches households in 1880). With the 1870 census and 1866 Freedmen's Bureau record, this brackets his death to 1870-1880 — consistent with the charted 28 Sep 1876 and REFUTING the member-tree date of 26 Oct 1898.

Open questions
  • 01Death 28 Sep 1876 vs 26 Oct 1898 (shared tree) — no primary death record; predates 1911 certs; not in the 1880 census — basis: open conflict
  • 02b. 1820 vs 1829 (a Southern Claims deposition age) — birth record not located — basis: tree/deposition
Conflict

RESOLVED by records (Ancestry, 8 Jul 2026): alive in the 1870 census (Ward 11, with wife Theresine) and the 1866 Freedmen's Bureau; ABSENT from 1880 & 1900 while his sons head their own households => death bracketed 1870-1880, consistent with 28 Sep 1876. The '26 Oct 1898' rests only on a member tree and is refuted (he would have been enumerated in 1880/1900). died kept 28 Sep 1876 (year record-bracketed; exact day still chart-level).
