Nicholas Augustin Metoyer — Born 22 Jan 1768; bapt. 1 Feb 1768 — eldest son of Coincoin, twin of Marie Susanne (M65). Son of Marie Thérèse Coincoin (F_COIN) × C.T.P. Metoyer (F_CTP). Married Marie Agnes Poissot (M67), 22 Aug 1792. 'Grandpère Augustin', Cane River patriarch; first of the family to receive a Spanish land concession on Isle Brevelle (St. Augustin chapel built on his plantation, 1827). His Spanish grant was surveyed at 395 acres but reduced to 157 on the American resurvey; he gave sizable tracts to his many children as wedding gifts, and at his 1840 division (after Agnes's death) the two plantations he still held sprawled across 2,134 acres. His 1839 estate 'remainder' was valued at ~$140,425. Documented in the Natchitoches 1729-1803 register, Mills, Forgotten People, Mills & Mills, 'Slaves and Masters' (NGSQ 70, 1982).
